The Lion Heart:
Richard, born in 1157AD, was the 3rd son of Henry II and Eleanor of Aquitaine. Spending most of his time in Aquitaine, Richard grew up a very defiant young man not a big fan of taking orders from authority. As duke of Aquitaine, a title carrying no real power, he wanted more power and control. So he made a pact with the ruler of France. After his fathers death in 1189 , he was announced Duke of Normandy and Count of Anjou, gaining more power and respect. But not enough to fill his need. Now having great power and control over large land masses, King Richard is an extremely qualified leader for the 3rd crusade.
